Trainee Stage Rally Marshal
(White Badge/Brown Dymo)
Upon first joining the Club the trainee marshal will be issued with a Trainee Stage Rally Marshal badge if they have either:
- Indicated no preference
- Indicated preference in favor of stage rallying
This method gives an implied bias in favor of the predominant type of rally marshalling, namely stage marshalling.
There will be no pre-requisites for being issued with a Trainee Stage Rally Marshal badge. The trainee marshal will also be issued with a grading card for the Stage Rally Marshal grade.
Stage Rally Marshal
(Brown Badge/Brown Dymo)
In order to gain the Stage Rally Marshal grade the trainee marshal should attend sufficient special stage rallies to gain twelve signatures over a period of not less than one year as follows:
- Two Arrival or Start Time Controls
- Two Flying Finish or Stop Time Controls
- One Spectator Control
- One Incident
- Three In-Stage Duty
- One Radio Training
- One Fire Training
- One Trainee Rally Training
Stage Timekeeper
(Brown Badge/Blue Dymo)
In order to gain the Stage Timekeeper grade the Stage Rally Marshal grade must be held for the minimum of one year. The marshal should attend sufficient special stage rallies to gain a further twelve signatures as follows:
- Two Arrival Time Controls
- Two Start Time Controls

- Two Stop Time Controls
- Two Timing Controls (Open)
- One Fire Training
- One Timing Training
Stage Operations
(Brown Badge/Green Dymo)
In order to gain the Stage Operations grade the Stage Rally Marshal grade must be held for the minimum of one year. The marshal should then attend sufficient special stage rallies to gain a further twelve signatures as follows:
- One Deputy Stage Commander
- One Sector Marshal
- Two Stage Arrowing or Stage Set Up
- Two Incident
- Two Spectator Control
- One Fire Training
- One Timing Training
- One Radio Training

Examining Stage Rally Marshal
(Brown Badge/Brown Dymo 'X')
The marshal should already hold both the Stage Timekeeper and Stage Operations grades and must have held those grades for a period of at least two years. During that time they should have regularly worked in the roles of stage timekeeper and in all aspects of stage operations, including gaining experience of working as a Stage Commander on a number of events up to and including National 'A' status.
Subject to meeting the above criteria, the marshal may then apply to the National Grading Administrator for upgrading to Examining Stage Rally Marshal. The National Grading Administrator will then send a questionnaire to two Examining Stage Rally Marshals of the BRMC's choice. These questionnaires, when completed, will be examined by the BRMC National Committee. After due consideration, upgrading to Examining Stage Rally Marshal will be confirmed, deferred or refused. If upgrading is refused the marshal will be given appropriate feedback and may re-apply in a further twelve months.
In order to maintain standards Examining Stage Rally Marshals will be required to attend at least one Stage Operations or Stage Timekeeping training day every two years. Anyone not conforming to this rule may, at the BRMC National Committee's discretion, have their examining grade removed. The BRMC National Committee may require examining grade members to attend a special examining members seminar, in which case, this would count for the above requirement. In the event of a marshal having their examining grade removed under this ruling, they may re-apply for the examining grade in a further twelve months.
